Bárbara Neyra A.

Barbara Neyra´s practice focuses on national and international tax law as well as complex reorganizations and M&A transactions. She has more than 15 years of experience providing comprehensive tax advice on a wide variety of clients, from open stock companies to individual executives, within a broad range of industries, including compensation and employee benefits, as well as wealth management, tax compliance, tax accounting and other tax decisions. She frequently manages tax matters in forming and investing in private equity and real estate funds, and advices on several tax controversies matters before the Chilean Revenue Service ("SII") and the Chilean Tax Courts.

Barbara is a lecturer on prestigous national universities, and is a frequent contributor to the finance literature and press. As a Partner at Schwencke, she leads the Tax Practice.

Notable Experience

- Strategic advice to important local family offices, with emphasis on family governance structure, wealth order and entry of new generations in family investments. 

- Advised local startups for the transfer of ownership, investments and local assets to parent companies located abroad.

- Supported a major retail chain and its shareholders in the process of opening up the stock market, in an operation that involved raising capital for more than USD 140,000,000.

- Various tax advice to open stock companies and regulated entities belonging to the health, retail, real estate, financial and insurance segments, focusing on matters related to income tax, tax on sales, services and taxes linked to financing and investments, both in Chile and abroad.

- Advice on private equity/ VC funds structures for domestic and cross border investments.

- Legal counsel on tax controversy and litigation matters before the Chilean Revenue Service ("SII") and specialized Tax Courts ("Tribunales Tributarios Aduaneros").

- Supported an important company in the hydrocarbon sector for its establishment in the country and on tax aspects related to the conclusion of oil and hydrocarbon exploration and operation contracts (CEOPs) with the State of Chile.

- Participation in the merger process of two open stock companies linked to the wine segment.

- Advised a financial company with an international presence in the sale of its participation in a pension fund manager in an operation for an amount equivalent to USD 1,300,000,000.
